When I bought the BK11 from K-bar, it came without handles. After a few months of using it I found it pretty much useless (I had cording wrapped around it). Micarta handles online cost around 40 bucks, and I simply don't have that kind of cash for two pieces of material. I found two sheets of a micarta-like material, and belt-sanded them to shape. I drilled out the holes and fastened it to the knife. The results are quite favorable: A comfortable grip and a "rough", outdoorsy look to it.
In all this cost me ~$30 for the knife, $1 for the micarta (I've got a lot more), and the metal parts I had at home. Commercial Micarta Scales:
