The Engineer's Igloo

Special thanks to Ted Kinsman who built a majority of the structure! A fun snow hut out of some science fiction movie. Two candles lit up the clear plastic, covering the PVC pipes. They are connected with zip ties and rope.

The inside is fairly snug, yet one can lay flat comfortably. A fun and interesting project!

Becker BK11 Synthetic Handles

When I bought the BK11 from K-bar, it came without handles. After a few months of using it I found it pretty much useless (I had cording wrapped around it). Micarta handles online cost around 40 bucks, and I simply don't have that kind of cash for two pieces of material. I found two sheets of a micarta-like material, and belt-sanded them to shape. I drilled out the holes and fastened it to the knife. The results are quite favorable: A comfortable grip and a "rough", outdoorsy look to it.

In all this cost me ~$30 for the knife, $1 for the micarta (I've got a lot more), and the metal parts I had at home.

Longboarding Photoshoot

Here's some fun pics I shot on Saturday. The is Pro-Longboarder Jarid Bottaro. He hits many of these turns at over 30mph! This was all shot with My cannon 30d, with a 50mm lense and a 170 degree fisheye. These would go on my portfolio by they just aren't "pro" enough. I may shoot again in better conditions. Fisheyes can definitely be a lot of fun!

Home Made Hunting/Bush Knife

Here's a project that has been in the making for quite some time now. Starting in mid-summer, I produced a very crude knife. After building two more I think I've got it right. The blade is made from a treated file and the handles are brass-pegged walnut with linseed oil. The sheath is a kit found at a local craft store.

Time to complete: one weekend (minus sheath)

Longboard Underglow

Here's a fun project: Longboard underlgow. I was boarding around a few days ago and decided my cruiser needed underglow. A few hours later the next day I wired up 8 LEDs to two C-cell batteries. In the end I had some bada** ghetto glow for my board! Thanks to Atomic Longboards whom I purchased the original board from.
